Topic: Paint Adhesion Issue
I am lookng for solutions to an issue with Carc. paint adhesion over a substrate that is plated per ASTM B633-07 type 2 class is Fe/Zn 13. The process is plating and than zinc. phosphate, prime and topcoat with Carc. black paint. We are having issues with the primer an top coat not adhering to the substrate and I am concerned that the issue may be the zinc phosphate is attacking the colored chomate coating causing this issue.
Does anyone out there have any information or experience with this.

Re: Paint Adhesion Issue
Which system are you using? Are you using 23377 primer or 53030? I would suspect Iron phosphate over the zinc plating is not a suggested first step and a wash primer first would get you adhesion. Most are just a dust coat that shouldnt take that long to dry. Also make sure you are allowing enough time between the primer and topcoat steps. Most systems require a minimum of two to three hours between steps.
