Topic: History of the Electrocoating process
Can anyone tell me where I can get info on the history of the Electrocoating process, the types of paint or resins used, say in the mid '70s.

Re: History of the Electrocoating processHello EmmaReid, Gardner Publications helped us find an article titled "50 Years of Epon" which is very much related to your earlier question. It was written by John G. Dickerson, a retired Shell Chemical chemist who helped develop markets for Epon Resins. This article begins with a historical overview of the automotive industry’s painting practices beginning in the 1930’s, followed by an overview of the introduction of the first waterborne epoxy anodic electro deposition primers in 1962. I also found a very interesting segment that explains the evolution of Anodic deposition vs. cathodic deposition. The article covers electro-deposition of paint all the way up until 1994 in some pretty good detail. You can also find a ton of references cited at the end of the article for use in any future research, just don’t forget to report back here on the forums to let us know what you learn. 50 Years of Epon.pdf eponthumb.jpg Re: History of the Electrocoating processDear EmmaReid, I recommend you contact the Electrocoat Association. The technology came to the US in the 1960's Ford was one of the first to use the concept via George Brewer. I am old enough to have met George and learned from him. I engineered my first E-coat system in 1980. Regards, Herb Stockman 812-453-5280 EmmaReid wrote:
