Topic: Institute supports UK trade show
Surface World 2009 with Correx is the UK's leading exhibition for the surface finishing, plating and coating sector. Organized by the Hill Media Group, it took place this year at the Birmingham National Exhibition Center 27 through 29 October 2009. The exhibition gathers together companies representing all strategic parts of the supply chain, sector trade associations and professional Institutes.
The Institute of Metal Finishing is a long time supporter and co-sponsor and once again, this exhibition proved a useful venue to meet with a large number of existing individual and sustaining members. It also provided an opportunity to meet industry professionals curious about the benefits of supporting the IMF.
The Institute stand led by Ken Hoare and Barry Gay, is always a popular focal point for topical debate, the discussion of technical issues and a great place to renew old friendships. This event was also an important milestone, as the first external exhibition to showcase the Institute's new display stand and support media, designed by Paul Wynn its public relations champion. In addition to clarifying the IMF's identity, the new display graphics highlights the benefits of membership and opportunities available for sector leading technical training and skills development.
Visiting from the US was Finishing Talk's very own Paul Fisher, following on from his August meeting in Charlotte NC with Paul Wynn.
Many familiar names took stands at Surface World 2009 and it was pleasing to see so many of the Institute's sustaining members around. But a number of leading suppliers were notable by their absence and it was clear visitor numbers were down. The exhibition has seen a gradual contraction in recent years, driven by a decline in the UK industrial base. Considering the present global economic crisis and domestic recession, Hill Media must be congratulated on keeping faith with the event. Where else can you find a dedicated UK sector showcase that gathers together so many companies in one place?
The Institute of Metal Finishing further consolidated its position with Surface World magazine during the summer, as each issue now contains a dedicated Institute news page. We thank them for their support and pass on our gratitude to the Hill Media Group for hosting a successful 2009 exhibition.
