Topic: Pretreatment process for Steel [ Started by unique1 in Industrial Cleaning : 3 replies ]

Hi, I am pretty new to the powder coating industry and i'm getting some bigger clients in day to day.

I'm in the process of getting a pretreatment setup going. My main concern is to setup something that is small at the moment.

I have a batch oven and i need to setup the pretreatment station to do steel newspaper racks for a customer. I currently have the phosphate chemicals to do so.

How does the setup need to be? Example: (1) Degreaser (2) Water Wash (3) Phosphate (4) Water Wash.

Or could i just go to Degreaser,Phosphate, then wash? Or will that contaminate the phosphate?

Any advice from those who have first hand experences in this would be GREAT!

Re: HELP - Powder Coating Blowing off in Oven [ Started by unique1 in Powder Coating : 6 replies ]

WOW! Loaded question (s)! Ok, first off, I have a ton of questions: 1. what kind of oven is this? 2. how close are you hanging the parts to the blowers or vents? 3. where are the vents/blowers/ductwork located?  Most often when powder is blowing off of parts in the oven before the gelling occurs, it is happening because the parts are located directly in line with a vent/blower that has a high velocity of air coming out of it. Can your air be re/channeled or dispersed with the addition or adjusting of duct work?

We will be teaching students just like you about things like oven design, the application various powder coatings, along with many other helpful topics to help you run a more efficient Powder Coating operation during our 2009 Powder Coating Course – Nationwide Tour.  Our next stop is Louisville, KY June 17-18.

I recommend a non-chromate conversion coating designed for aluminum. What is that?

Yes, these are for a customer. We are a small company that just started powder coating about 1 yr. ago in lower AL. I gave him a waranty on the "workmanship" and quality of the work. As far as the color fading and what knot, no. I have got in touch with a chemical place locally and they recomended something called Big A. He said it has some type of acid too.

I'm about to powder coat some shutters a black wrinkle and i need to find the best pretreatment for them. I have alumibrite, phosphate and a few others out there. I'm looking for something that i can dip them into and either it evaporate off or spray off with the water hose.
