Brass high lite on black finish

Anyone ever herd of this product EZ OX - Oxidizing brass,copper,silver bath. It produces a "gun metal black" finish on Die cast zinc parts and steel. The proses is: After the cleaners it gets  a thick brass plate (950sec). Then flash copper(cyanide).The only purposes of the copper (cyanide) it to get our immersion antiquing (the antiquing will not stick to the brass) that we have will only stick to copper. The problem that we are having is to get to the brass high lite we have to cut though the copper. When we do this it cut all the way down to the metal or we cant cut though the copper. Anyone have any ideas on what i can do to improve the prosses.
