Belewsboy asks, "Can someone tell me what a "MiniMag" flashlite is finished with?"
I don't know but it sure looks like a great durable finish. After years of crawling around in aluminum boat hulls with my red finished MiniMag flash light in a belt holster, the finish is just now beginning to ware-off down to the shiny aluminum substrate. I say ware-off only because it is not flaking off, peeling off, chipping off or shows any exact mil thickness change between coating and bare substrate.
Seems to be just a gentle smooth abraded and thinning of this mystery finish on the high wear areas. I like it!
The Texas outfit that manufactures the larger MagLite flashlights [I don't know if it's the same outfit that makes MiniMags] have a facility in Shreveport, LA that manufactures the "Smokey Joe's" smokers for meats and retailed by Sams Club and Wal-Mart. It's a simple 5 stage and powder coat operations on Drag Strip Hywy in the old Piggly Wiggly wearhouse along side the the railroad tracks. Three members of my crew were shot, one died, in a unrelated Shreveport incident on Father's Day Sunday while we did our laundry during the erection of that job. Worst part was re-crewing and finishing the job.

Palmer Johnson Yachts built in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Just for grins. Finish is: grind the aluminum, AwlGrip Marine Coatings, yellow primer, 'mudd', lots of hand sanding to fair in the line, more mudd, and top coat in AwlGrip. So $44 million later it's yours. Sport Yachts in 120', 135', 150', 170' and 200 foot. Starts around 120 ton, 64,000 U.S. gallon diesel, 2 to 3 MTU 4000kw V-16 diesels, 50 knots, a couple of Catapillar Generator packs, lots of T.L.C.; tender loving care.
