Re: Heavy metal free formulations now available on all composite and conventional electro

TRENTON, NJ, December 15, 2005 – Responding to environmental and regulatory concerns, STI has introduced the metal finishing industry’s first full line of environmentally designed electroless nickel systems.  The company now offers all varieties of electroless nickel free of lead, cadmium or any other heavy metal.  Such varieties include conventional alloys with low, medium, and high percentages of phosphorous, or boron, as well as composites of electroless nickel with diamond, PTFE, silicon carbide, boron nitride, nano materials, and other particles.

STI has offered for more than two decades a medium phosphorous electroless nickel alloy free of lead, cadmium or any other heavy metal.  Others in the industry have recently developed such coatings and limited other varieties.  STI however, has now applied its expertise in electroless nickel and composite coatings to make versions of all such coatings free of heavy metals.  All such coatings are formulated to conform to regulations such as ELV (End of Life Vehicle), RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substance), WEEE (Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment).

Lead has been used traditionally in electroless nickel-plating as the primary stabilize the plating reaction.  Cadmium has served as the most common agent to brighten electroless nickel deposits for cosmetic purposes.

Surface Technology, Inc. is a unique provider of electroless plating technology, as STI is both a plating shop as well as a supplier of chemical solutions to other shops and licensees.  The synergy of these two facets of STI’s activities yields unsurpassed experience, quality, economy, and development capabilities.

To hkellner: I have read your ad for STI's electroless products. My question for you is how are you recycling your high turn baths? Are you interested  in 90% bath return, simple waste treat on the 10% loss and just nickel and hypo add back. STI's customers stand to benefit by less bath make-up costs ,lower waste treatment expenses and STI keeps all it's customers and stands to gain many more with proper marketing. thanks haleovision

I'd like to reveal the whole process. I developed the process a few years ago. I'm open to suggestions as how to market the process. I have not been in the plating business for a few years and I need to know what are the current technologies for nickel bath recycling. I may be behind the curve, but I doubt it. If you can help me or direct me to a knowledgable source of this recycling information, maybe we will see this process in action. Thanks haleovision
