Topic: WETTABILITY ISSUES

Hello

Recently I met with issues of wettability on some carbon steel substrates plated with Hi P plating(more than 10% P).

Parts are packed in trays and cartoned up for shipment to China. It takes about 14 days via sea.

Tests by using wako 40 and a swipe on the surface reveals contracting on surface, however similar lots sent with same plating date has also passed this test.Only some lots are affected by this phenomenon.

Can I seek advice on what do I need to do or what are the problems associated with such phenomenon?

Tks

Re: WETTABILITY ISSUES

You have to say more please.

What is the "Wako 40" test? What do we know about its incidence of false positives? What is meant by "swipe?" What is meant by "contracting?"

How do we know that there is an actual problem with performance of an end-use good; and not just an inconsistent test result?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Re: WETTABILITY ISSUES

Hi

Wako 40(wet tension test, mixture number 40.0) is the solution that is use to test wettability acceptance.Basic method is to use a cotton swipe, dip into this solution and swipe it on the part.

Upon swiping,within 2-3 seconds the solution will either show a contraction on the surface(which mean is a NO GO)or it will remain as a puddle on the part(which is ok).

The problem I hv is at my incoming and outgoing inspection, sampling passed this test.Upon arrival to my customer in China 14 days later by Sea freight, they failed the test.......Customer uses same specs as us.
