Powder Coating Educational Seminar Offered to Colleges

The Powder Coating Institute (PCI) has developed a one-hour multi-media presentation for college students on the powder coating process, which is available to travel to the classroom at no charge.

The one-hour presentation is aimed at college students who are majoring in polymer science, engineering, and architecture and building design. The presentation covers the process, related equipment, and features and uses of powder coating, an industrial finishing method using dry powder particles and electrostatic attraction to coat and protect numerous products and parts.

This presentation consists of a brief video, display samples of powders and powder coated parts and live instruction by a powder coating industry expert with a Powerpoint demonstration, along with a follow-up question-and-answer session.

Students will receive full-color handouts illustrating the basics and benefits of powder coating technology, and the professor will receive a complimentary copy of Powder Coating – The Complete Finisher's Handbook, the 500-page powder coating textbook published by PCI.

PCI Executive Director Greg Bocchi noted, "The presentation offers a good overview of the versatility of powder coating as a finishing process, to help educate students who know nothing or little about it. It is also a generic non-sales oriented presentation."

He continued, "PCI's goal with this college program is simply to give students information on powder coating – as a possible career path, or to consider using powder coating or powder coated products, in their future careers in engineering, architecture, and design."

The PCI College Program has already visited the University of Cincinnati and Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI, with more presentations being scheduled for the 2006-2007 academic year.

Professors and instructors interested in bringing the program to their school should contact PCI Communications Director: jpalmer@powdercoating.org or at (703) 684-1770 for more information.

I really think that this is such a great opportunity for College Students.  I myself are fresh out of school.  There really isn't enough information out there dealing with the Finishing Industry for Architects, Engineers, etc. to get a better understanding of the Finishing Industry in general.  If there are any other opportunities for College Students like this they need to be presented as well and come up with better ways to keep the younger generations involved.
